Strengthening parliamentary ties between Morocco and Gambia for development and cooperation
In a significant step towards enhancing South-South cooperation, Rachid Talbi El Alami, President of the Moroccan House of Representatives, hosted a high-level parliamentary delegation from Gambia today. The visit, which will continue until February 15, highlights the exchange of experiences and the reaffirmation of the historical ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, which went beyond mere protocol, the focus was placed on critical issues impacting the development of both countries. Billay G. Tunkara, President of Gambia’s National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed his country’s interest in learning from Morocco's development achievements, as well as its parliamentary model. A key topic was Gambia’s continued support for the Royal Atlantic Initiative, a strategic project aimed at fostering cooperation and development in the African Atlantic region. This support reflects the strong bilateral relationship and shared commitment to deepening it further.
Talbi El Alami took the opportunity to provide the Gambian delegation with an overview of Morocco's ongoing projects under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. His presentation went beyond a mere listing of accomplishments, delving into the functions of the Moroccan legislature, democratic progress, and advancements in human rights. He also emphasized Morocco's efforts in economic and social development, offering a comprehensive view of the country's progress.
In a gesture of gratitude, Talbi El Alami acknowledged Gambia's steadfast support for Morocco's territorial integrity, a highly sensitive issue for the Kingdom. The presence of Abdoulie Bah, Chargé d'Affaires at the Gambian Embassy in Morocco, underscored the significance of the meeting. This encounter not only symbolizes the strengthening of bilateral relations but also serves as a catalyst for future collaborations in areas of mutual interest, reinforcing both countries' roles as key players in African development.
