ONMT promotes AFCON 2025 as a tourism opportunity for Morocco
Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) is actively preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), recognizing the tournament as a pivotal opportunity to showcase the country's tourism potential. The event, scheduled to take place later this year, will attract teams, fans, and media from across Africa and beyond.
In a recent press release, ONMT announced a "fam trip" from April 2-6, designed to engage tourism professionals from various African nations. This initiative includes two pan-African workshops aimed at connecting Moroccan tourism operators with their counterparts throughout the continent.
ONMT views AFCON not merely as a sporting event but as a unique platform to highlight Morocco’s rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and robust infrastructure. The tourism office is launching a comprehensive strategy that involves inviting tourism operators from countries such as Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Mali, Ghana, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, and Cameroon.
The workshops will facilitate business-to-business meetings, enabling African travel agents and tourism professionals to develop attractive packages tailored for AFCON. These packages will emphasize Morocco's tourism offerings and commercial opportunities.
Additionally, ONMT plans to conduct a roadshow in Europe, targeting nations with substantial African communities. This effort aims to connect Moroccan tourism operators with European travel agencies that specialize in African destinations.
ONMT’s goal is to transform AFCON into a remarkable global showcase for Morocco, positioning the country as a premier football destination and enhancing its international profile beyond the continent.
