Did you know that certain items are strictly prohibited in vehicles across Spain? The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has established specific regulations aimed at ensuring public safety. Violating these rules can lead to hefty fines, sometimes exceeding €30,000.

Firearms

Transporting a firearm without the necessary documentation can result in a fine exceeding €30,000, along with potential criminal repercussions. If deemed a threat to public safety, the penalties could be even harsher.

Sharp Objects

While knives and similar sharp objects are not illegal, carrying any sharp item with a blade longer than 11 centimeters requires authorization. Fines for violations can range from €300 to €30,000.

Unauthorized Surveillance Devices

Devices such as hidden cameras or frequency jammers fall under strict prohibitions unless justified. Possessing these without a valid reason can attract serious penalties.

Thermal Vision Goggles

These devices, capable of detecting heat from a distance, can raise suspicions of illegal activities like hunting or spying. Fines for carrying thermal vision goggles can reach up to €60,000 in some regions.

Drones

Unregistered drones are not permitted in vehicles. While registered drones are allowed, it's advisable to store them in the boot to avoid complications.

Ammunition

Carrying unregistered hunting cartridges can lead to fines up to €30,000, and may result in arrest for illegal weapon possession.

Flammable Substances

Transporting dangerous or flammable liquids is prohibited due to the risk of spills and fires.

Fireworks and Explosives

Any unauthorized firework, explosive, or pyrotechnic material is banned, with fines reaching €30,000.

Modified Torches

Torches that have been altered to emit excessive brightness or electric shocks are illegal. Fines for such modifications range from €601 to €30,000.

Pets

Animals must be properly restrained in vehicles. Pets cannot roam freely within the passenger compartment, as this poses a distraction to the driver.

Impairing Objects

No items should obstruct the driver's view. Objects placed on the rear shelf that hinder visibility are not allowed.

Blunt Objects

Items like baseball bats should ideally be stored in the boot unless there is a clear justification for their presence.

Improperly Positioned Passengers

Transporting individuals outside designated seating areas is prohibited. In vehicles designed for cargo, safety measures must be in place to protect passengers.
