Morocco to Sight the Crescent Moon for Eid Al Fitr on Sunday

Religious committees in Morocco are set to observe the crescent moon on Sunday, marking the potential start of Eid Al Fitr, which signifies the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of the month of Shawwal. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has mobilized these committees to ensure accurate moon sighting in alignment with traditional practices.

Should the moon be visible, Monday will officially be designated as Eid Al Fitr. If not, the celebration will be postponed to April 1. Early astronomical predictions suggest that Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, with renowned Moroccan astronomer Ibrahim Akhiam forecasting visibility of the crescent moon on Sunday.

In a recent interview with Morocco World News, Akhiam emphasized that while astronomical calculations provide a preliminary indication, the recognized practice in Morocco relies on legitimate visual sightings confirmed by official authorities.

Several other Arab nations are expected to celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Sunday, highlighting the shared cultural significance of this holiday. In Morocco, Eid Al Fitr is not only a time for culinary delights but also an occasion for families to come together for communal prayers and festivities.
