Morocco's presidency of the African Union's Peace and Security Council (PSC) in March reaffirmed the country's steadfast dedication to promoting peace and stability across Africa.

Key discussions during this tenure included the impact of artificial intelligence on security and peace, as well as climate change. Additionally, under Morocco’s leadership, the PSC held informal consultations with politically transitioning countries—Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Guinea, Sudan, and Gabon—along with meetings to assess the security situation in Sudan and South Sudan.

Guided by the vision of King Mohammed VI, who has long championed Africa’s self-determination, Morocco’s presidency was marked by a high-level ministerial meeting on "Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on Peace and Security." During the session, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, called for strong and unified African leadership to harness AI as a tool for development, peace, and security.

One of the highlights of Morocco’s presidency was the informal consultations with the six transitional countries. This initiative was widely praised, as it not only provided an opportunity to review progress in each nation’s transition process but also reaffirmed their aspirations for full reintegration into the African Union.

Throughout its leadership, Morocco remained vigilant to developments across the continent, paying special attention to the situation in Sudan. The PSC also held two sessions in March to assess the evolving crisis in South Sudan.

Amid Africa’s multiple security challenges, Morocco led thematic sessions addressing crucial peace and security concerns, including "Climate Change: Challenges to Peace and Security in Africa," "Countering Extremism as a Tool Against Violent Radicalization," and "The Women, Peace, and Security Agenda in Africa."

Another milestone of Morocco’s presidency was the launch of an orientation program for new PSC members. Held in Arusha, Tanzania, from March 22 to 28, 2025, this initiative laid out a roadmap for enhancing the council’s efficiency.

Furthermore, Morocco played a key role in securing a unified African stance on the 2025 review of the UN Peacebuilding Architecture.

Morocco’s tenure in the PSC underscored its commitment to a coordinated and pragmatic African approach to security challenges, reinforcing its role as a key player in shaping the continent’s stability.
