USAID Reinforces Commitment to Morocco's Socio-Economic Transformation
During a recent press briefing in Rabat, Samantha Power, Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), reiterated the organization's unwavering support for Morocco's ongoing socio-economic reforms. Following discussions with Morocco's Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita, Power addressed the media, praising the North African nation's remarkable achievements and its pivotal role on both continental and regional fronts.
Power's remarks highlighted USAID's endorsement of the reforms led by King Mohammed VI, covering domains such as governance, education, and development. She lauded Morocco's significant strides in promoting youth empowerment, countering extremism, and its impressive accomplishments in renewable energy and climate change mitigation.
Moreover, Power commended Morocco's efficient management of the aftermath of the devastating Al Haouz earthquake, which claimed 3,000 lives on September 8th.
In a significant announcement, Power unveiled the launch of the new Cooperative Resilience Program, a strategic initiative aimed at bolstering Moroccan communities' adaptation to the escalating challenges posed by climate change. This program seeks to empower cooperatives and entrepreneurs, with a particular emphasis on women and youth, through the provision of cash grants and technical assistance, fostering climate resilience and sustainable growth.
Power elucidated the program's objectives, stating, "It supports Moroccan cooperatives and entrepreneurs, especially women and young people, to grow their businesses and to build their resilience to climate shocks."
Through this comprehensive approach, USAID underscores its steadfast commitment to supporting Morocco's transformative socio-economic agenda, fostering resilience, and promoting sustainable development for the benefit of all Moroccans.
