Amidst mounting economic hardships facing Moroccan retirees, a significant initiative is underway with the impending establishment of the "Moroccan Retirees' Federation." Retired individuals from both the public and private sectors have convened a preparatory committee to safeguard their rights and advocate for improved living conditions.

The genesis of this federation lies in the concerning situation of retirees in Morocco. Despite their substantial contributions to the nation's development, many find themselves grappling with challenging circumstances during their golden years.

In a recent communiqué, the preparatory committee emphasized that this endeavor aims to "defend the rights of this demographic and advocate for the betterment of their situation to ensure a dignified life for all retirees and their widows/widowers, in accordance with various Moroccan laws and international treaties."

Mustapha El Bouihi, the coordinator of the preparatory committee, elucidated the primary motivations behind this initiative. He highlighted, "a legal void that allows associations or unions to solely defend the rights of active workers," leaving retirees without adequate representation. He also shed light on the economic injustices endured by retirees, notably the freezing of their base pensions, exacerbating their struggles amidst inflation and rising living costs.

El Bouihi aspires for the federation to become a "strong force for proposition and negotiation, voicing the concerns of this demographic," transcending sectoral divisions. He calls for specific measures to enhance the quality of life for retirees, such as preferential advantages for transportation, hotels, pilgrimages, as well as medical care and health compensations.

In an effort to "initiate a responsible public debate on the situation of retirees in Morocco and establish the Moroccan Retirees' Federation in the near future," the preparatory committee invites "all retirees, individually or through associations, to join this initiative and contribute to the founding phase," according to the communiqué.

Through this endeavor, Morocco's retirees are poised to gain a unified and influential platform to advocate for their rights and address the multifaceted challenges they face. By harnessing the collective voice of this demographic, the Moroccan Retirees' Federation aims to foster a constructive dialogue and propose tangible solutions that will ensure a dignified and secure retirement for those who have dedicated their lives to the nation's progress.
