Morocco Reaffirms Support for Palestinian Cause and Two-State Solution Amid Middle East Tensions
Morocco's Foreign Affairs Minister, Nasser Bourita, has reaffirmed the country's stance on the Middle East conflict, emphasizing support for a two-state solution and condemning attacks on Palestinian civilians. In a press briefing on Tuesday, Bourita outlined Morocco's position as defined by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee.
The minister called for a paradigm shift from crisis management to establishing parameters for a lasting solution. Morocco advocates for a Palestinian state based on the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Bourita stressed the importance of preventing extremists from dictating the region's agenda, urging constructive actors to take control and initiative.
Emphasizing the protection of civilians as a fundamental principle, Bourita condemned attacks on Palestinian civilians, the blockade of humanitarian aid, and what he described as a policy aimed at "starving" Palestinians. He criticized Israel's actions against schools, hospitals, and thousands of women and children in Palestinian territories.
The Foreign Minister also expressed concern about the potential expansion of the conflict to Lebanon, warning that such a development could destabilize the entire region. He called for increased mobilization and urged United Nations bodies to fulfill their responsibilities in halting attacks on the Palestinian people.
In a notable stance, Morocco condemned inappropriate remarks and attacks against the UN Secretary-General and foreign heads of state. Bourita argued that such actions do not contribute to de-escalation or the search for quick solutions to the conflict. He stressed that instability in the Middle East fuels hatred, extremism, and terrorism.
Bourita concluded by encouraging the constructive examination of all well-intentioned efforts and proposals, emphasizing that decisions to accept or reject them should be made within a framework of mutual respect. This reaffirmation of Morocco's position comes at a crucial time, as the international community grapples with the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and seeks pathways to lasting peace in the region.
