Morocco Positions Itself as Green Hydrogen Hub at World Power-to-X Summit 2024
The World Power-to-X Summit 2024 launched today in Marrakech, Morocco, bringing together global experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to advance green hydrogen development. This high-profile event, co-organized by the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN), the Green H2 Cluster, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), aims to solidify Morocco's position as a key player in the emerging green hydrogen sector.
Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali opened the summit, underscoring Morocco's commitment to green hydrogen as a crucial component of its low-carbon strategy and energy transition efforts. Benali highlighted the recently published "Morocco Offer," a framework designed to attract national and international investors for integrated green hydrogen projects in the country.
"Green Hydrogen development aligns perfectly with Morocco's commitment to international climate efforts and builds upon our decade-long push for energy transition," Benali stated. She urged participants to leverage the summit's opportunities for collaboration on clean energy solutions.
The two-day event features a comprehensive program including side events, masterclasses, sectoral meetings, and business-to-government (BtoG) and business-to-business (BtoB) networking sessions. Expert-led panels and workshops will delve into critical topics such as Power-to-X technologies, hydrogen integration into energy systems, and financing strategies for large-scale international projects.
UM6P, a co-organizer dedicated to developing innovative solutions for Africa's unique challenges, plays a pivotal role in the summit. The university's focus on research and industry partnerships underscores its commitment to nurturing talent capable of shaping Africa's future.
The World Power-to-X Summit 2024 serves as a catalyst for strategic partnerships and innovative project launches. It aims to assess progress and discuss concrete initiatives emerging from this year's collaborations at the upcoming 2025 summit, further cementing Morocco's ambitions as a global green hydrogen hub.
