Moroccan Summer Travel Trends: A Glimpse into the Nation's Vacation Plans
Survey Reveals 64% of Moroccans Are Skipping Summer Travel This Year
A recent survey conducted by Moroccan market research firm Sunergia unveils intriguing insights into the travel habits of Moroccans. The results, published today by the newspaper Assahabh, indicate that a significant 64% of Moroccans are not planning to embark on a summer vacation this year.
Travel Plans and Expenditures
According to the survey, only 29% of respondents have either traveled or intend to travel this summer, while 5% remain undecided. Among those who do travel, spending habits vary considerably:
- 40% of travelers allocate between MAD 5,000 ($500) and MAD 8,000 ($800) for their vacations.
- 31% spend MAD 10,000 ($1,000) or more.
- 29% manage with less than MAD 5,000.
Interestingly, a small segment of 16% of vacationers are willing to splurge over MAD 20,000 ($2,000), whereas 30% of travelers maintain a budget of MAD 5,000.
Domestic vs. International Preferences
A striking 88% of Moroccans who plan to travel this year prefer to stay within the country. Popular domestic destinations include Tangier, Casablanca, and Marrakech. On the other hand, for those venturing abroad, Spain is the top choice, followed by France, Italy, and Turkey.
Duration of Vacations
The survey also sheds light on the duration of vacations. The majority of Moroccan travelers opt for brief getaways, with most spending no more than one week away. About 26% of respondents favor two-week trips, while a mere 6% aim for more extended journeys.
Accommodation Choices and Booking Habits
Accommodation preferences and booking habits reveal a distinct trend among Moroccan travelers:
- 78% prefer renting apartments over staying in hotels, which only attract 14% of vacationers.
- 47% of Moroccans have never booked their accommodation in advance, preferring to find lodging upon arrival.
- For international travel, 85% of respondents also skip advance bookings, while just 15% secure their hotels before departure.
This comprehensive survey by Sunergia offers a detailed snapshot of Moroccan summer travel trends. With a majority opting to stay home and a clear preference for domestic destinations and flexible accommodation arrangements, the findings highlight the unique travel behaviors of Moroccans during the summer season.
