Diplomatic Meeting: Nasser Bourita and Staffan de Mistura Discuss Moroccan Sahara Situation
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, held talks on Thursday in Rabat with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura.
The discussions took place in an atmosphere marked by frankness and a positive and constructive spirit, in the presence of the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad.
This visit is part of a regional tour with the parties mentioned in Security Council resolution 2703, aimed at reactivating the political process of roundtable discussions with the participation of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the "polisario", as the only framework defined by Security Council resolutions to achieve a realistic, pragmatic, sustainable, and compromise-based political solution.
On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation reiterated the principles of Morocco's position, reaffirmed by King Mohammed VI to the United Nations Secretary-General, which are:
- There is no process outside the framework of the roundtable discussions defined by the UN, with the full participation of Algeria.
- There is no solution outside the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative.
- There is no serious process while the ceasefire is violated daily by the "polisario" militias.
