In a remarkable feat, the Cherif Al Idrissi Airport in Al Hoceima witnessed a staggering 28% surge in passenger traffic by the end of March 2024, compared to the same period the previous year, according to the National Office of Airports (ONDA). This surge underscores the burgeoning popularity of this coastal gem as a sought-after destination.
The airport's ascendancy is evident in the numbers, with a total of 16,980 passengers gracing its terminals by late March, a significant leap from the 13,261 travelers recorded during the corresponding period in 2023, as reported by ONDA in an official communiqué.
While the month of March alone witnessed a 10% dip, with 4,014 passengers welcomed, compared to 4,482 in the same month last year, the airport's overall trajectory remains resoundingly upward. Notably, the Cherif Al Idrissi Airport closed out 2023 with an impressive commercial traffic volume of 101,126 passengers, a 16% increase from the preceding year, solidifying its position as a thriving aviation hub.
This surge in passenger traffic at Al Hoceima's airport is a microcosm of the broader trend unfolding across Morocco's aviation landscape. According to ONDA, the nation's airports collectively recorded a commercial traffic volume of 6,873,487 passengers by the end of March 2024, a remarkable 14% uptick compared to the same period in 2023, underscoring the country's allure as a prime travel destination.
