Amazon launches AI podcasts on demand with Alexa Plus

Amazon has introduced a new feature for its Alexa Plus assistant that allows users to generate full podcast episodes on demand using artificial intelligence. The tool, called Alexa Podcasts, is being rolled out to Alexa Plus subscribers in the United States and marks a deeper push into personalized audio content.

The system lets users request a podcast on virtually any topic without needing scripts, source material, or preparation. Once a request is made, Alexa searches for relevant information, organizes it, and produces a structured audio episode presented as a conversation between two AI-generated co-hosts. Users can adjust key parameters such as length, tone, and focus before the final audio is generated.

After completion, episodes are delivered directly to Amazon Echo Show devices and the Alexa mobile application, where they are stored in a dedicated “Music and More” section for later playback. Amazon has showcased examples ranging from Roman history explanations to music industry updates and World Cup predictions, as well as educational lessons on topics like Apollo space missions and photography.

To support accuracy, Amazon says the system relies on content from more than 200 media partners, including major global news organizations and publishers. The company positions this integration as a way to ground AI-generated audio in verified reporting while expanding how users consume information in audio format.

The launch places Amazon in direct competition with other AI audio tools, including systems that generate podcast-style discussions from user-provided documents. Unlike those tools, Alexa Podcasts does not require uploads or external input, as the assistant independently gathers and synthesizes information.

Alexa Plus has been available in the United States since February, included for Amazon Prime members or offered as a paid subscription for non-members. Amazon is also exploring additional personalized audio formats, including custom news briefings and document-based audio summaries, signaling a broader shift toward AI-driven media consumption.
