Bombardier highlights US economic footprint after Trump warning

Bombardier is emphasizing its contribution to the US economy after President Donald Trump warned the Canadian aerospace manufacturer that it could face restrictions on selling aircraft in the United States unless it shifts more of its manufacturing operations onto American soil.

The company said its activities across the country support tens of thousands of jobs and contribute significantly to the strength of the US aerospace and aviation industry. Bombardier also stressed the importance of the sector to American exports, noting that aerospace has traditionally generated a trade surplus for the United States.

Bombardier employs workers across more than 20 US states and operates facilities in locations including Kansas, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Delaware, California, New Jersey and Washington. The company said its American presence is supported by a broad domestic supply chain involving around 2,800 US companies across 47 states.

According to Bombardier, it spends more than $2.5 billion annually with US-based suppliers, creating economic activity well beyond its own workforce. The company argues that these investments make its operations an important part of the wider American aerospace ecosystem.

The manufacturer is also preparing to expand its activities in the United States, particularly in defense and aircraft maintenance services. Among its planned investments is a new facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which is expected to open later this year.

Bombardier said it remains committed to its US employees, customers, business partners and local communities. The company also indicated that it intends to continue investing in its workforce and American operations as it responds to growing pressure for greater domestic manufacturing.

The dispute comes amid the Trump administration’s broader push to encourage companies operating in strategic industries to increase production inside the United States. For Bombardier, highlighting its existing American workforce, suppliers and investments is a way of underscoring the company’s economic importance to the country.
