Morocco and Dubai unite to boost Africa’s digital future through GITEX collaboration
Leaders from Morocco’s Digital Development Agency (ADD) and the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) have reinforced their partnership to position Africa as a global digital powerhouse. The collaboration, centered on the successful GITEX Africa event, reflects their shared ambition to drive innovation, investment, and sustainable digital transformation across the continent.
During a meeting in Rabat, Amine El Mezouaghi, Director General of the ADD, hosted Trixie LohMirmand, Executive Vice President of the DWTC and CEO of Kaoun International. Their discussions reviewed the progress of GITEX Africa’s first three editions and mapped out strategic goals for the upcoming fourth edition.
El Mezouaghi emphasized GITEX Africa as more than a tech event—it is a platform for startups, investors, and innovators to propel Africa into the digital future. He linked the initiative to Morocco’s broader “Digital Morocco 2030” strategy, which prioritizes sustainable development, structural transformation, and South-South cooperation.
The 2025 edition of GITEX Africa, held in Marrakech, attracted over 52,000 visitors from 130 countries, marking a 16% rise in attendance compared to the previous year. With 1,450 exhibitors, including 740 startups—260 of which were Moroccan—the event underscored Morocco’s emergence as a leading digital hub. The Moroccan government actively supported over 200 local companies to participate, showcasing its commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
The discussions also highlighted Morocco’s vision to deploy 5G technology and build robust digital infrastructure, essential for modernizing its economy and preparing for its role as a co-host of the FIFA World Cup 2030. This underscores the country’s dedication to establishing seamless connectivity and cutting-edge digital services for global audiences.
Both the ADD and DWTC affirmed their commitment to making GITEX Africa a platform that not only showcases innovation but also creates an inclusive, interconnected, and sovereign African digital ecosystem. Their partnership aims to position Africa as a leader in the global digital economy while advancing regional collaboration and sustainable development.
