Severe Weather: NARSA urges drivers to avoid non-essential travel

The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) of Morocco has urged all road users to exercise extreme caution and postpone non-essential travel amid warnings of heavy rain, thunderstorms, snow, and strong winds in several provinces, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology.

In an official statement, NARSA emphasized that drivers of passenger and freight vehicles should closely monitor weather updates and plan their journeys carefully. The agency highlighted that the onset of school holidays combined with hazardous weather increases the risk of traffic accidents.

Key safety recommendations include:

Ensuring regular vehicle maintenance and technical inspections, including brakes, tires, wipers, lights, and suspension.
Reducing speed and adjusting driving according to road and weather conditions, particularly on sharp curves, slopes, and winding roads.
Avoiding sudden maneuvers or driving in tight convoys, and paying close attention to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
Maintaining a safe following distance and exercising caution when overtaking, especially in low visibility conditions.
Taking adequate rest before driving to prevent fatigue-related accidents.

NARSA also stressed extra caution during nighttime driving or in foggy conditions, ensuring proper use of lights, and vigilance when crossing bridges or potentially flooded areas.

The agency concluded by reminding citizens that road safety is a collective responsibility, with compliance to traffic rules contributing to the protection of lives and the reduction of accidents.
