Tangier hosts first national maritime talks under Atlantic ambition

Tangier hosted the opening of the first national maritime conference on Thursday, bringing together senior officials, international representatives and sector stakeholders to define a new direction for Morocco’s maritime policy. The event took place under the supervision of the ministry of transport and logistics and under royal patronage, reflecting the strategic weight given to maritime development in national planning.

The gathering included government officials, port authorities, shipowners, and experts from international organizations. The presence of the secretary general of the International Maritime Organization signaled the global dimension of the discussions. Participants focused on strengthening cooperation between public institutions and private operators in a sector considered central to trade and logistics flows.

Authorities outlined a development vision centered on an integrated maritime ecosystem. This approach prioritizes the expansion of a competitive national fleet, improved intermodal transport systems, and modernized governance frameworks. Human capital development and environmental sustainability were also presented as core pillars of the strategy, aligned with broader Atlantic-oriented regional integration goals.

Over two days, panels are set to address structural issues affecting the maritime sector. Topics include fleet competitiveness, regulatory reform, maritime logistics performance, training of skilled professionals, and environmental compliance standards. The discussions aim to consolidate Morocco’s position as a regional maritime and logistics hub with stronger international connectivity and operational capacity.
