US accuses Cuba of decades-long espionage and subversion campaign

The United States has intensified its pressure on Cuba, accusing the island's communist government of conducting a decades-long campaign of espionage, infiltration and subversive activities aimed at undermining American interests.

In a newly released report, the US State Department alleged that Havana had pursued a sustained strategy involving intelligence operations, sabotage and covert networks designed to influence political developments within the United States. The document portrays Cuba's activities as part of a long-term effort to challenge American institutions and expand its geopolitical influence.

While the report does not present major new allegations, it reinforces Washington's increasingly confrontational stance toward the Cuban government and forms part of a broader campaign to tighten diplomatic and economic pressure on Havana.

The publication comes amid an already strained relationship between the two countries. In recent months, the United States has expanded sanctions, maintained restrictions affecting Cuba's energy sector and pursued legal actions against senior figures linked to the Cuban leadership.

The latest accusations also emerge against a shifting regional backdrop following political developments in Venezuela, a longstanding ally of Cuba. Washington has signaled a tougher approach toward governments it considers hostile to US interests, placing Havana under renewed diplomatic scrutiny.

Relations between the United States and Cuba have experienced repeated cycles of engagement and confrontation over the past several decades. Despite occasional periods of dialogue, disputes over human rights, political freedoms, security issues and intelligence activities have continued to shape bilateral ties.

The State Department's report is expected to further deepen tensions between Washington and Havana, adding another layer to an already complex relationship marked by sanctions, diplomatic disagreements and longstanding geopolitical rivalry.
