OCP secures 60,000-ton fertilizer deal with Bangladesh

Morocco’s OCP Group has secured a new export agreement to supply 60,000 tons of triple superphosphate fertilizer to Bangladesh. The deal aims to strengthen agricultural input supplies ahead of key cultivation seasons and support the country’s food production needs.

The approval came from Bangladesh’s Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase during a meeting chaired by the country’s finance minister. The committee cleared two separate import proposals, each covering 30,000 tons of fertilizer sourced from Morocco under a structured procurement plan managed by the national agricultural development authority.

The shipment is divided into two equal tranches. The first batch was priced at 688 dollars per ton, while the second was set at 726.33 dollars per ton. The combined value of the operation is estimated at roughly 42.4 to 42.5 million dollars, reflecting global fertilizer pricing conditions and supply arrangements under the existing framework agreement.

Officials said the imports are designed to secure uninterrupted fertilizer availability for farmers during upcoming planting cycles. Bangladesh continues to depend on international suppliers to meet domestic agricultural demand, particularly for phosphate-based fertilizers essential for crop yields.

The agreement further consolidates OCP’s position as a major global exporter of phosphate fertilizers. The company has expanded its presence in Asian markets, where rising agricultural demand has increased reliance on stable import partnerships to maintain food security and production stability.
