Switzerland's Support for a Just, Lasting, and Mutually Acceptable Solution to Moroccan Sahara
In a demonstration of Switzerland's unwavering stance on the long-standing dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, the President of the Swiss National Council, Eric Nussbaumer, expressed his country's support for a political solution that is fair, enduring, and mutually acceptable to all parties involved. Speaking at a press conference in Rabat on Tuesday, following talks with Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nussbaumer's remarks carried significant weight.
Switzerland, a nation renowned for its neutrality and commitment to conflict resolution, has reaffirmed its backing for the efforts undertaken by the United Nations and its Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura. Nussbaumer emphasized that Switzerland wholeheartedly supports the pursuit of a political solution that aligns with international law and the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.
Underscoring Morocco's credible and sincere endeavors towards a compromise-based political settlement, Nussbaumer highlighted the Kingdom's Autonomy Initiative, presented to the UN Secretary-General in 2007. This initiative, widely regarded as a constructive proposal, has garnered Switzerland's recognition and endorsement.
Moreover, Nussbaumer urged all parties involved in the dispute to remain engaged in the process, fostering an environment of compromise and goodwill. Switzerland's call for continued commitment from all stakeholders underscores the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomacy in resolving this long-standing regional conflict.
As the international community continues to grapple with complex geopolitical challenges, Switzerland's unwavering support for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue serves as a beacon of hope. Through principled diplomacy and an emphasis on compromise, the nation aims to contribute to the resolution of this protracted dispute, paving the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.
