In a pivotal move aimed at fortifying bilateral ties and propelling maritime development, Turkey has pledged to share its comprehensive maritime expertise with Morocco. This commitment was unveiled during a high-level meeting between Mohamed Abdeljalil, Morocco's Minister of Transport and Logistics, and Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, held on Wednesday. The discussion, which took place on the sidelines of the prestigious 2024 International Transport Forum (ITF) Summit, highlighted the unwavering commitment of both nations to enhance cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors.

Minister Uraloglu underscored Turkey's vast experience in port development and managing a formidable commercial maritime fleet, expressing Turkey's readiness to extend its knowledge and resources to Morocco. This support aligns seamlessly with King Mohammed VI's visionary plan to develop Morocco's national maritime fleet, a project aimed at bolstering the nation's nautical capabilities and asserting its presence on the global maritime stage.

On the road transport front, Minister Abdeljalil conveyed Morocco's keen interest in Turkey's expertise with digital tachographs, which have revolutionized freight and passenger transport monitoring. Minister Uraloglu highlighted Turkey's successful implementation of these cutting-edge digital systems and assured Morocco of Turkey's unwavering commitment to sharing its knowledge and best practices.

Road safety, a paramount concern for both nations, emerged as a critical area of discussion, with both ministers agreeing to exchange experiences and expertise to enhance safety measures and safeguard the lives of their citizens on the roads.

Furthermore, Minister Abdeljalil extended a cordial invitation to his Turkish counterpart to participate in the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, a prestigious gathering slated to take place in the picturesque city of Marrakech from February 18 to 20, 2025. This conference promises to be a pivotal platform for fostering international collaboration and advancing road safety initiatives on a global scale.

The diplomatic relationship between Morocco and Turkey, spanning over six decades, has been a testament to mutual respect and an unwavering commitment to territorial integrity. This enduring friendship has witnessed significant evolution, particularly since the signing of a comprehensive free trade agreement in 2004, which took effect in 2006. This landmark agreement has catalyzed commercial exchanges, achieving a remarkable growth rate of 14%.

By 2018, Moroccan imports from Turkey had soared to over 21.5 billion dirhams, while Moroccan exports to Turkey reached an impressive 5.54 billion dirhams, underscoring the economic synergies and potential for further growth between these two nations.

As Morocco and Turkey embark on this new chapter of maritime cooperation, the world eagerly anticipates the tangible outcomes of this strategic partnership, which promises to usher in a new era of nautical prowess and unlock unprecedented opportunities for economic growth and prosperity.
