British energy firm Chariot Limited has struck a significant gas discovery at its OBA-1 well in the sun-baked deserts of northern Morocco. The company's recent drilling operation has uncovered a treasure trove of gas reservoirs, offering a glimpse into the region's untapped energy potential.

Situated within the Loukos Onshore license area, the OBA-1 well reached a final measured depth of 901 meters. Chariot's team navigated the challenges of the desert terrain, completing the operation safely, on schedule, and within budget, a testament to their professionalism.

Initial evaluations, using wireline logs, cuttings, and gas data, have revealed substantial reservoirs, raising hopes for a bountiful energy yield. Preliminary interpretations indicate the well contains a staggering 200 meters of gross thickness reservoirs, aligning with the company's pre-drill targets.

Chariot's Technical Director, Duncan Wallace, expressed his enthusiasm, hailing the successful drilling of the OBA-1 well as a significant milestone. "We are elated to report the triumphant conclusion of Chariot's inaugural onshore drilling campaign in Morocco, accompanied by such promising results for the potential of the Dartois area," he stated.

Wallace emphasized the importance of integrating data from both the RZK-1 and OBA-1 wells with reprocessed 3D seismic data. This integration enables a more comprehensive understanding of the resource potential and shapes future work programs. "Our two initial wells have both validated our geological model for reservoir distribution and the presence of gas, auguring well for forthcoming exploration endeavors," he added.

With the OBA-1 well temporarily suspended to facilitate future rigless flow testing operations and potential use as a producer well, Chariot is now looking ahead. The company is preparing for an offshore drilling campaign scheduled for the third quarter of 2024 at the Anchois gas field, in collaboration with Energean. This ambitious undertaking aims to enhance development to over 1 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas reserves.

Wallace extended his gratitude to the operational team, commending their unwavering commitment to drilling safe, efficient, and successful wells. He also acknowledged the invaluable support of ONHYM, Chariot's partner in the Loukos license, underscoring the importance of such collaborative efforts.

As the desert sun sets on this remarkable achievement, the energy world eagerly awaits the next chapter in Chariot's quest to unlock Morocco's subterranean treasures, fueling the dreams of a brighter, more sustainable future.
