Artificial Intelligence reshapes Morocco's creative industry landscape

In a significant development for Morocco's cultural sector, European Union officials and industry leaders gathered in Casablanca to discuss the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in the cultural and creative industries (CCI). Daniele Dotto, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Morocco, emphasized AI's role as a key driver for innovation and competitiveness in the sector.

During a discussion forum organized by the Federation of Cultural and Creative Industries (FICC) and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), with EU support, participants explored how AI technology is opening new horizons for creators while facilitating innovative content production and broader cultural access.

FICC President Neila Tazi highlighted AI's potential to revolutionize the creative sector, noting its capacity to enhance content creation and audience engagement. However, she raised important concerns about ethical considerations, standardization risks, and the preservation of cultural diversity as AI continues to reshape artistic creation and cultural consumption patterns.

Nadim Sadek, founder and CEO of Shimmr AI, shared insights from his experience in AI-powered immersive cultural content creation. He emphasized AI's growing influence on creativity and described its pervasive presence in daily life as an unstoppable force.

The meeting, part of a broader Morocco-EU partnership, aimed to foster innovation, cultural entrepreneurship, and digital transformation in the creative industries. Dotto specifically highlighted the increasing significance of cultural and creative industries in Morocco's economy and their role in generating opportunities for young people, while acknowledging the unique challenges AI presents to cultural professions, particularly regarding intellectual property rights.

The forum provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss these developments and emphasized the importance of initiatives to support decision-makers and cultural actors in navigating this technological transition.
