Road safety alert during Aïd Al-Fitr travel

The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) urges all road users to exercise increased caution and take necessary safety measures due to the high traffic volume expected during Aïd Al-Fitr.

In a statement, NARSA emphasizes the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly for public transport and freight drivers, as well as all vehicle operators. The agency calls for vigilance, caution, and patience to ensure safer travel.

Drivers are advised to conduct thorough mechanical inspections of their vehicles before departure, focusing on safety systems such as lights, tires, brakes, shock absorbers, and windshield wipers to ensure optimal functionality.

Additionally, NARSA stresses the importance of adequate rest before driving, as fatigue can impair concentration, distance assessment, speed control, and reaction time. Travelers are encouraged to plan their routes in advance, secure their luggage properly, and avoid overloading, particularly for freight and passenger transport operators, as overloading poses significant risks to road safety.

While driving, motorists should reduce speed, adapt to traffic and weather conditions, and strictly follow road regulations, especially on curves, slopes, and steep roads. Maintaining a safe distance is crucial, both within urban areas and on highways and national roads. Extra caution is required during overtaking and nighttime driving.

Children under ten must occupy rear seats and wear seat belts, a rule that also applies to passengers in both private vehicles and public transport. NARSA further reminds drivers to avoid driving in a convoy, use indicators when overtaking or stopping, and refrain from sudden maneuvers to prevent accidents.
