Anonymous player wins $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot in Illinois

An anonymous lottery player in Illinois has won the $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot, ending a remarkable streak of 44 consecutive drawings without a top-prize winner.

The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69, with the red Powerball number 9. The winning ticket was reportedly sold at a gas station in Quincy, Illinois.

The winner now has two options: receive the jackpot through annual payments over several years or choose a lump-sum cash payment of approximately $450.5 million before taxes. Federal and state taxes could significantly reduce the final amount received.

The win is among the largest Powerball prizes ever recorded and represents a major event for Illinois, which had not produced a jackpot winner of this scale for many years.

Several other players also won substantial prizes in the same drawing, including one player who reportedly received $2 million and four others who won $1 million each.

Despite the enormous jackpot, the odds of winning the Powerball grand prize remain extremely low, at approximately one in 292 million. The latest win once again highlights the extraordinary rarity of becoming a jackpot winner.
