Morocco launches national debate on combating fake news

Rabat, Morocco – On December 17, 2025, Morocco will host a national forum dedicated to addressing the growing challenge of fake news. Organized under the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the event aims to create a platform for dialogue on the spread of misleading content and the increasing influence of social media on public opinion.

The forum will bring together researchers, journalists, digital experts, and government representatives to explore the topic under the theme: “Combating Fake News: Perspectives and Approaches.” Discussions will cover media regulation, the role of professional journalism, digital literacy, and tools for verifying information.

Officials hope to develop practical strategies to strengthen public confidence in credible information. Key measures include enhanced training for journalists in fact-checking, improved monitoring tools, citizen awareness campaigns on source verification, and support for producing verified content.

By hosting this national debate, Morocco emphasizes its commitment to prioritizing the fight against disinformation. In an era where fake news can distort perceptions, weaken institutions, and escalate tensions, the forum represents a significant step toward a more transparent and resilient information ecosystem.
