Trump says iran has accepted nuclear non-proliferation pledge

Donald Trump stated that Iran has already agreed not to develop nuclear weapons, framing the claim as part of ongoing efforts to secure a preliminary understanding between Washington and Tehran. He made the remarks during a podcast interview as tensions in the Gulf region continued to escalate, marked by renewed military exchanges.

The statement contrasts with reports indicating that communication between Iranian officials and Washington has stalled in recent days. Iranian sources have described the diplomatic channel as inactive, while other accounts suggest the United States is pressing Tehran to formalize stronger written commitments on its nuclear program. Iranian negotiators have not confirmed acceptance of these revised conditions.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers that Iran had shown openness to discussing parts of its nuclear program it previously refused to address. He also stated that the Iranian supreme leadership remains involved in the process and that any sanctions relief would depend on a full halt to nuclear-related activities. The evolving position signals movement in talks, but no binding agreement has been reached.

Negotiations remain centered on a draft framework that would prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons while leaving key technical questions unresolved. The current proposal outlines a 60-day negotiation window focused on uranium enrichment limits and potential sanctions relief. Discussions inside senior US decision-making circles have reportedly included demands for clearer mechanisms on how enriched uranium stockpiles would be handled.

At the same time, regional tensions have intensified. A missile strike hit Kuwait’s airport, while US forces carried out air operations near the Strait of Hormuz. The developments have added pressure on already fragile diplomatic efforts, as both sides continue to exchange military signals alongside ongoing negotiations.
