Morocco and Croatia Deepen Long-term Strategic Cooperation

The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Croatia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their long-term comprehensive partnership during a meeting held on Wednesday in Zagreb. This partnership, originally established in 2019, was reinforced through a joint declaration issued after talks between Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić-Radman and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

Both nations expressed a shared desire to expand collaboration across a variety of sectors, including the economy, trade, culture, science, education, and interpersonal exchanges. The ministers also agreed on the importance of organizing economic forums to boost engagement between business communities in both countries.

Highlighting their excellent bilateral ties, the two countries stressed the importance of enhancing cultural and academic cooperation to support human and economic development. They also emphasized Morocco's strategic partnership with the European Union (EU), calling for continued dialogue to strengthen this relationship on a firm and constructive foundation.

Further, both sides highlighted the need to intensify cooperation between the EU, its southern neighbors, and the Euro-African region. They underscored the constructive roles played by both countries in maintaining regional peace, security, and stability. Reaffirming their dedication to the principles of the UN Charter, the two ministers advocated for peaceful conflict resolution, with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

On the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, Croatia reiterated its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, proposed in 2007, describing it as a serious and credible effort and a strong foundation for achieving a political solution in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Croatia reaffirmed its support for the UN-led political process, including Resolution 2756 (2024), which calls for a realistic and compromise-based political solution.

Additionally, Croatia praised the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral dialogue and cooperation on regional and international challenges of shared concern.
