Morocco introduces dual-direction radar system to curb speeding

Morocco is set to implement a new automated radar system capable of detecting speeding in both traffic directions, marking a significant step forward in road safety enforcement.

Enhanced radar technology

The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) announced that the system will go into effect on June 16 as part of its ongoing efforts to improve road safety and enforce traffic laws more equitably. Unlike previous radar systems, which primarily monitored vehicles approaching the device, the new system will also track those driving away.

NARSA highlighted that all drivers, regardless of direction, will now be equally monitored and held accountable for exceeding speed limits. This development aims to eliminate the misconception that speeding violations are only recorded from vehicles headed toward a radar.

A fairer approach to enforcement

The dual-direction radar system promises several significant changes for drivers in Morocco. First, it ensures more accurate monitoring by covering both directions of traffic. Second, it promotes fairness by treating all road users equally, reducing the likelihood of some drivers evading penalties.

According to NARSA, the initiative is expected to encourage drivers to adhere to speed limits consistently, improving overall road safety and reducing traffic accidents.

A broader safety campaign

The radar rollout forms part of Morocco's broader strategy to enhance traffic safety through stricter enforcement and increased public awareness. NARSA also emphasized the importance of respecting traffic laws, reminding drivers that these regulations exist to protect everyone on the road.

Through measures like these, Moroccan authorities aim to significantly reduce traffic accidents and save lives, reinforcing their commitment to building safer roads across the country.
