Erdoğan marks 42nd anniversary of the TRNC's founding
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a message on Friday celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
In his statement, Erdoğan extended his “sincere congratulations” to the Turkish Cypriot community, marking what he described as an “extraordinary and meaningful day.” He honored the memory of those who lost their lives in past conflicts and expressed gratitude to the veterans who contributed to the island’s struggle.
“We will never abandon our national cause, Cyprus,” Erdoğan declared, reaffirming Türkiye’s long-standing support for Northern Cyprus. He emphasized that Ankara will continue to deepen its solidarity with Turkish Cypriots “in all fields.”
The TRNC, recognized only by Türkiye, declared independence on November 15, 1983, following years of political tension on the island.
