U-20 AFCON: CAF to Hold New Draw This Sunday
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will hold a new draw for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 this Sunday, April 13, at 4:00 p.m. (Moroccan time). Originally scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast, the tournament has been relocated to Egypt following the Ivorian withdrawal, rendering the previous draw invalid.
The competition is set to run from April 27 to May 18, 2025, with thirteen national teams participating. These teams will be divided into three groups: Group A will feature five teams, while Groups B and C will each include four. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place finishers, will advance to the quarterfinals.
As the host nation, Egypt will automatically take the top spot in Group A (A1). Nigeria, third in the last edition, will be placed in B1, and defending champions Senegal will head Group C in position C1.
Top seeds in Pot 1 include Tunisia, Zambia, and the Central African Republic, all of whom competed in the previous tournament. These teams will be assigned to different groups during the new draw.
Meanwhile, Morocco, Sierra Leone (a debutant), Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, all of whom were absent from the last edition, have been placed in Pot 2 to fill the remaining slots.
