Amnesty International Calls Out Genocide in Gaza
Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, urging global leaders to intervene and halt the violence. The human rights organization reached its damning conclusion following a comprehensive nine-month investigation covering the period from October 7, 2023, to early July 2024.
The inquiry involved interviews with over 200 individuals, including local authorities in Gaza, healthcare workers, aid professionals, and Palestinian survivors of airstrikes, forced displacement, and detention. The evidence collected paints a harrowing picture of the crisis unfolding in the region.
“The Palestinian people will not recover from this in our lifetimes as a people, and we’re failing to call it what it is,” said Paul O’Brien, Amnesty International's director, in an interview with Zeteo.
O’Brien emphasized the urgent need for countries with significant influence over Israel, particularly the United States and Germany, to step in and end the violence. He called on these nations to take decisive action to address what Amnesty International has termed a "violent genocide" against the Palestinian population in Gaza.
Amnesty International's findings are expected to heighten international scrutiny of the ongoing conflict, potentially influencing diplomatic and humanitarian responses worldwide.
