Unveiling Morocco's Demographic Landscape: The Cartographic Endeavors of the 2024 General Census

In a significant stride towards depicting Morocco's dynamic demographic landscape, Ahmed Lahlimi, the esteemed High Commissioner for Planning, unveiled the details of the communication campaign for the 2024 General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH) during a landmark event in Rabat on Wednesday.

Marking the beginning of the census's operational phase, Lahlimi disclosed the comprehensive results of the cartographic efforts undertaken in preparation for this monumental task, shedding light on the nation's diverse tapestry of dwellings and settlements.

Geo-referencing of Constructions

For the first time in the nation's history, the cartographic efforts have led to the geo-referencing of an impressive 4,138,900 constructions within urban areas, meticulously categorized according to their architectural typologies: Villas (5.2%), Apartment Buildings (5.2%), Traditional Moroccan Houses (3.6%), Modern Moroccan Houses (75.2%), Rudimentary Dwellings/Slums (5.4%), Rural Houses (1.8%), and Administrative, Professional, or Service Buildings (3.6%).

Geo-referencing of Douars (Rural Settlements)

A total of 33,682 douars have been precisely geo-referenced, with their distribution revealing a predominance of grouped douars, accounting for 57.9% of the total, while scattered douars constitute 25%, and dispersed douars make up 17.1%.

Establishment of 2024 Census Districts

Both urban and rural municipalities have been meticulously subdivided into 37,108 census districts, ensuring a comprehensive and detailed approach to data collection.

Delineation of 2024 Control Sectors

The distribution of control sectors reflects a balanced approach, with 59.7% located in urban areas and 40.3% in rural regions, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the nation.

Establishment of Municipal Supervision Zones

In a sweeping endeavor, the entire national territory has been subdivided into 935 municipal supervision zones, facilitating efficient coordination and oversight of census operations.

As the nation eagerly anticipates the release of the 2024 General Census of Population and Housing, these cartographic achievements set the stage for an unprecedented level of demographic insight, enabling policymakers and stakeholders to navigate towards a more prosperous and equitable future for all Moroccans.
