Ukraine's Zelenskiy discusses Iranian drone threats with Saudi crown prince
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Saturday that he spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman regarding the situation in Iran and broader Middle East tensions. Zelenskiy reiterated Ukraine’s offer to assist in countering Iranian-made drones, drawing on Kyiv’s extensive experience in defending against such attacks.
In a post on Telegram, Zelenskiy highlighted that Ukraine has been combating Iranian-designed 'Shahed' drones for several years and emphasized that the country possesses unique expertise that could support other nations. "We are ready to help and expect that our people will also receive the necessary support," he said.
Earlier this week, Zelenskiy held talks with leaders from Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates to discuss regional security challenges. Ukraine has also offered to assist the United States by providing specialists trained to counter Shahed drones, which have been used repeatedly against Ukrainian targets in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Analysts note that Ukraine’s outreach reflects both the country’s strategic interest in fostering international cooperation and its growing reputation for expertise in drone defense. As tensions in the Middle East continue, Kyiv’s proposals aim to strengthen alliances and share technical knowledge in counter-drone operations.
