Türkiye announced on Friday that a ballistic munition launched from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense systems.

According to a statement from the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, the projectile was neutralized by NATO air defense assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The ministry emphasized that authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure the protection of the country’s territory and airspace against potential threats. Officials stressed that national security remains the government’s highest priority.

The statement also indicated that consultations are underway with the relevant country to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the origin and trajectory of the ballistic munition.

Turkish authorities said they are closely monitoring regional developments amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly following recent escalations involving Iran and its regional rivals.

As a member of NATO, Türkiye hosts and cooperates with several allied air and missile defense systems designed to respond rapidly to potential aerial threats and maintain regional security.

Officials reiterated that Ankara remains vigilant and prepared to respond to any risk affecting its national security and territorial integrity.
