Morocco Holds Second Political Consultation Ahead of 2027 Elections
Morocco has stepped up preparations for its 2027 electoral cycle, with the Minister of the Interior holding a second round of consultations with political party leaders and representatives as authorities move forward with plans to establish the legal framework governing the upcoming elections.
The meeting took place on Thursday afternoon, October 29, following a first consultation held on Wednesday, October 28, with representatives of political parties holding parliamentary groups or groupings. The latest discussions brought together leaders of the remaining political parties, extending the consultation process across the country's political landscape.
The initiative is being conducted in accordance with the High Royal Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at ensuring the necessary preparations for the 2027 electoral deadlines.
Broad Electoral Agenda for 2027
The upcoming electoral cycle will cover several levels of representative institutions. These include municipal, prefectural, provincial and regional councils, professional chambers, representatives of employees and the House of Councillors.
Given the scope of these elections, the Interior Ministry is working with political stakeholders to establish the main principles and legislative provisions that will govern the electoral process.
During Thursday's meeting, party representatives were briefed on the principal issues under consideration, particularly the possibility of maintaining legislative measures introduced ahead of the September 23, 2026 election of members of the House of Representatives.
Special attention was given to provisions designed to strengthen electoral integrity, promote transparency and improve the ethical standards governing electoral campaigns and voting operations.
Political Parties Invited to Submit Proposals
The consultation also provided an opportunity for political leaders to present their views on the legal and regulatory measures that could shape the 2027 elections.
The Ministry of the Interior invited the participating parties to submit their proposals and recommendations by November 15, 2026.
These contributions will serve as a basis for preparing an initial framework outlining possible amendments to the country's electoral legislation. The proposed changes are expected to enter the legislative process as quickly as possible, allowing sufficient time for preparations ahead of the elections.
The approach reflects an effort to involve political parties in shaping the rules governing the electoral process before the formal legislative procedures begin.
Dialogue Focuses on Democratic Participation
According to the Interior Ministry's statement, the meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, with open and responsible exchanges between government officials and political representatives.
Participants expressed their willingness to work alongside public authorities and other stakeholders to help ensure that the 2027 elections represent another significant stage in Morocco's democratic development.
The consultations form part of a broader institutional process intended to reinforce the country's democratic framework under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
With the November 15 deadline approaching, political parties now have an opportunity to contribute directly to discussions on electoral legislation, as Morocco moves towards an important series of elections in 2027.
