Moroccan Football: El Arjoune Appointed National Technical Director of Refereeing
Morocco’s professional football league has appointed former international referee Abderrahim El Arjoune as the new National Technical Director of Refereeing, replacing Redouane Jiyed in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s refereeing system.
The National Professional Football League (LNFP) announced the appointment on Friday, October 30, 2026, as part of its efforts to improve the organisation, technical standards and development of football officiating across national competitions.
The decision marks a change in leadership within a key institution responsible for overseeing refereeing standards in Moroccan football.
El Arjoune Takes Charge of Refereeing Development
El Arjoune’s appointment is intended to bring renewed momentum to the national refereeing structure, with particular emphasis on improving technical supervision and strengthening the mechanisms used to develop match officials.
His professional background and experience in domestic, continental and international refereeing are expected to contribute to the organisation's ongoing development.
The new director will oversee the technical direction of refereeing, including efforts to improve the preparation and performance of officials involved in Moroccan football competitions.
Redouane Jiyed Receives a New Assignment
Although he is leaving the leadership position, Redouane Jiyed will remain involved in the national refereeing structure.
The former director has been entrusted with supervising the training and continuing professional development of referees. The decision reflects the intention to retain the benefit of his professional experience and the expertise he accumulated through assignments at continental and international levels.
This redistribution of responsibilities introduces a new organisational arrangement, separating the technical leadership of refereeing from the supervision of training programmes.
A New Chapter for Moroccan Football Officiating
The leadership change comes as Moroccan football continues to focus on improving the quality and consistency of refereeing across its professional competitions.
The appointment of El Arjoune places renewed attention on technical development, the preparation of referees and the strengthening of institutional mechanisms governing match officiating.
The effectiveness of the new arrangement will ultimately be measured by its ability to improve refereeing standards, reinforce professional practices and support greater consistency in decisions throughout Moroccan football.
