Trump orders U.S. withdrawal from 66 international organizations
Donald Trump signed an executive order instructing the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations that “no longer serve American interests,” the White House announced in a message on X.
Among these are 31 United Nations-related organizations.
Since returning to the White House nearly a year ago, the Republican president has been implementing his “America First” agenda.
As during his first term, Trump has withdrawn the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement and UNESCO—the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization—which the country had rejoined under President Joe Biden.
He has also pulled the U.S. out of the World Health Organization.
The Trump administration has significantly cut U.S. foreign aid, affecting the budgets of many U.N. agencies forced to scale back their operations, including the UN Refugee Agency and the World Food Programme.
In September, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump criticized the U.N., stating it was “far from realizing its potential.”
