The King's Eagles Soar: Raja Casablanca's Invincible Season
In a season that defied all expectations, Raja Casablanca etched their name into the annals of Moroccan football history by securing the league title with an unprecedented and invincible campaign. Their remarkable performance, marked by the highest points tally since the introduction of the 16-team championship format, has ignited a whirlwind of reactions across social media platforms.
In a gripping title race against the formidable Forces Armées Royales (FAR), the Green Eagles emerged victorious, clinching the championship with a resounding 3-0 victory over Mouloudia Club d'Oujda at the Stade d'Honneur on May 14th. This triumph not only solidified their dominance but also shattered two longstanding records.
The Rajaouis accomplished the extraordinary feat of finishing the season unbeaten, a first in the annals of Moroccan football. Boasting the league's meanest defense, having conceded a mere 15 goals, and the second-highest scoring attack with 52 goals, the Greens exhibited unwavering solidity throughout the campaign. Their exceptional form culminated in 21 victories and 9 draws across 30 matches, amassing an unprecedented 72 points — a record since the Botola Pro D1 transitioned to a 16-team format in 1988.
This triumph also stands as a testament to the exceptional work of German coach Josef Zinnbauer. Despite a somewhat tepid start, with eight draws in his first 16 matches spanning the previous and current seasons, the supporters and leadership remained steadfast in their support for the German tactician, and their patience was ultimately rewarded.
"Our fans are incredible. Their commitment, their travels, and their constant support are remarkable. I really want to thank them for their trust and support," Zinnbauer expressed after the match.
Instrumental in all three decisive moments of the final encounter, Algerian winger Yousri Bouzok emerged as Zinnbauer's talisman. Bouzok etched his name into the record books, scoring twice and providing a decisive assist, bringing his tally to 14 goals and 9 assists in the Botola Pro D1 this season. With an astonishing 23 goal contributions, he stands as the club's most influential player, with Nawfel Zerhouni a distant second, contributing seven goals and seven assists.
The Rajaouis owe a portion of their success to their closest challengers, FAR, who pushed them to their limits until the very end. After leading the championship for 20 rounds, the Militaires concluded the season with 70 points, just one point behind the Greens, securing the second-highest points total in Moroccan championship history.
FAR's success can be attributed to their formidable attacking prowess, netting an impressive 65 goals — a feat that shattered Wydad Casablanca's 75-year-old record of 61 goals. Unfortunately, this remarkable achievement fell short of securing a second consecutive Botola Pro D1 title, a feat last accomplished 56 years ago.
However, the season is far from over for the top two teams in Moroccan football. Both Raja Casablanca and FAR remain in contention for the prestigious Throne Cup, with the former set to host Mouloudia Club d'Oujda on June 25th, while the latter travels to Fès to face Maghreb Association Sportive on June 23rd in the semi-finals.
As the dust settles on Raja Casablanca's invincible campaign, social media platforms have been inundated with a flurry of reactions, celebrating the Green Eagles' remarkable achievement and their place in the pantheon of Moroccan football greats.
