Luis de la Fuente's tenure as Spain's national team coach is set to continue unabated. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) officially confirmed on Tuesday the extension of his contract until 2026, signifying their unwavering trust in the ambitious tactician.

In a succinct yet clear statement, the governing body announced: "Having informed the national team coach of the effective agreement to renew his contract, as announced in February, as well as the renewal of his technical staff." This decision cements De la Fuente's long-term roadmap at the helm, a role he assumed in late 2022 to heal the wounds of Spain's premature exit from the World Cup in Qatar.

While his initial tenure was set to expire on June 30th, in the midst of Euro 2024 where Spain will participate, an extension clause had been inserted and has now been activated. This is a resounding vote of confidence in the cerebral mastermind who, since taking charge, has successfully imprinted his tactical philosophy on a rejuvenated squad.

Under his astute guidance, La Roja has already captured a prestigious trophy by winning the 2023 Nations League. More importantly, he has successfully steered his team to qualification for the upcoming European Championship, where they will face Italy, Croatia, and Albania in Group B. This will be a grand stage for De la Fuente's ambitious playing philosophy to truly be put to the test, having amassed nine wins, two draws, and two losses in 13 matches at the helm.
