Thailand: Moroccans Will Need a Visa Again Starting September 15

Starting September 15, 2026, Moroccan nationals wishing to travel to Thailand will need to apply for a visa before their departure. Bangkok is thus ending the visa-free access that Moroccan passport holders enjoyed for stays of up to 60 days.

A Significant Change for Moroccan Travelers

The Department of Consular Affairs of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs unveiled a new framework governing the entry of foreign travelers on Tuesday, September 1. This revision significantly alters the entry conditions for several nationalities.

Until now, the Moroccan passport allowed for a visa-free stay in Thailand for a maximum period of 60 days. This convenience will disappear starting September 15.

Moroccan travelers will now need to obtain a visa corresponding to the nature of their stay before their departure. This process will particularly apply to tourist trips, according to the conditions applicable to the type of visa requested.

A Reduced Exemption to 30 Days for a More Limited List

The Thai reform also includes a reduction in the scope of the visa exemption. The regime allowing a 60-day visa-free stay, which previously applied to 93 countries and territories, will be replaced by a limited exemption of 30 days for a smaller group of nationalities.

Morocco is not included in this new list.

Moroccan nationals are also not included among the countries benefiting from a bilateral visa exemption agreement with Thailand. They are also not part of the nationalities eligible for a Visa on Arrival under the new framework.

This development means that travelers will need to plan their administrative procedures more in advance before scheduling a trip to the Asian kingdom.

A Measure to Consider Before Any Departure

For Moroccan tourists considering a trip to Thailand starting mid-September, this change imposes the need to verify the new entry procedures and prepare their application well in advance.

The modification comes as Thailand seeks to reorganize its admission regime for foreign travelers by more clearly distinguishing between nationalities benefiting from an exemption and those subject to prior procedures.

For Moroccan passport holders, the rule will now be clear: starting September 15, 2026, a visa must be obtained before travel, unless there are any further developments from the Thai authorities.
