Tangerine production in Morocco to grow by 4% in 2025-2026
Morocco’s citrus industry is set to experience moderate growth in the 2025/26 marketing year, with tangerine and mandarin production projected to reach 1.15 million metric tons, a 4% increase compared to the previous season. Favorable weather conditions and the natural growth cycle of citrus trees have contributed to this improvement, according to FreshPlaza.
Orange production is expected to rise by 1%, reaching 970,000 metric tons, while lemon and lime output is forecasted at 48,000 metric tons, marking a 6% increase. Despite these gains, overall citrus volumes remain below the record highs of the 2018/19 season but are slightly above the five-year average.
The export season for tangerines and mandarins began two weeks later than usual due to slower fruit maturation and size development. However, exports are forecast to grow moderately, with shipments of tangerines and mandarins expected to reach 550,000 metric tons, a 2% increase from the previous year. Orange exports are projected to remain steady at 85,000 metric tons, while lemon and lime exports are estimated at 10,000 metric tons, consistent with prior seasons.
The Moroccan government continues to support the citrus sector through initiatives led by the Agricultural Development Fund (FDA). These measures aim to boost exports, enhance investment in packing and processing facilities, and solidify Morocco’s standing in the global citrus market.
Additionally, Morocco has successfully expanded its citrus exports to new markets. In the 2024/25 season, shipments of mandarins and clementines to Germany reached 8,200 metric tons, generating MAD 134 million ($12.1 million). This marked a 60% increase from the previous record and the first time Moroccan citrus exports to Germany exceeded $10 million.
