Sweltering Heatwave to Grip Morocco: Temperatures Set to Reach 47 Degrees Celsius
Morocco Prepares for Intense Heatwave as Temperatures Soar
The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an urgent orange alert, forecasting a severe heatwave to hit various provinces from Tuesday to Friday. Residents in the affected areas should prepare for scorching heat, with temperatures expected to range between 42 and 47 degrees Celsius.
Between Tuesday and Friday, several provinces, including Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Saleh, Guercif, Taounate, Taza, Settat, and Khouribga, will experience temperatures between 42 and 46 degrees Celsius. The provinces of Marrakech are expected to face even more extreme conditions, with temperatures potentially reaching 47 degrees Celsius from Wednesday to Friday.
This summer, Morocco has already endured record-breaking temperatures, leading to severe consequences. Earlier this week, a heatwave tragically claimed 21 lives in the Beni Mellal region, highlighting the lethal impact of these extreme conditions.
In response to the escalating temperatures, the Ministry of Health has announced a series of emergency measures to address heat-related health issues across the country. "The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has implemented a series of emergency measures to address the health effects resulting from the high heatwave currently affecting the country," the ministry stated.
The ministry explained that regional health authorities have activated additional shifts in healthcare facilities in areas experiencing extreme heat. This proactive approach aims to ensure that medical services remain accessible and responsive during the heatwave.
Health authorities have also issued a list of recommendations to help citizens mitigate the effects of the rising temperatures, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children, individuals with underlying health conditions, and the elderly. These measures are crucial in safeguarding public health during this period of intense heat.
As Morocco braces for this impending heatwave, authorities urge residents to stay informed, take necessary precautions, and prioritize the well-being of the most vulnerable. The collective effort to address the challenges posed by the extreme weather will be vital in navigating this period safely.
