In a significant diplomatic engagement, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, accompanied by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez during the High-Level Week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This meeting underscores a renewed commitment to enhancing the bilateral relationship between Morocco and Spain, which has evolved into a robust partnership over recent years.

Both leaders acknowledged the strategic importance of their nations' ties, emphasizing cooperation across various sectors including trade, migration management, and security. Spain has been Morocco's primary trading partner since 2012, with trade exchanges exceeding €20 billion for the first time in 2022. This partnership is further bolstered by numerous Spanish companies engaging in substantial projects within Morocco, particularly in transport infrastructure and renewable energy.

The discussions also highlighted ongoing collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing mutual challenges such as irregular migration and terrorism. Sánchez noted the exemplary cooperation established between the two nations, particularly in managing migration flows through innovative programs that serve as models at the European level.

Akhannouch and Sánchez also explored opportunities for further economic integration, aiming to enhance value chains that would stimulate growth and benefit both populations. They expressed a shared vision of fostering peace and prosperity across the Mediterranean region while committing to sustainable development goals.

In addition to economic discussions, the leaders addressed pressing international issues, including the situation in Gaza and the Sahara conflict. Sánchez reaffirmed Spain's position on these matters, advocating for humanitarian access and a two-state solution in the Middle East while recognizing Morocco's efforts towards a credible resolution regarding the Sahara.

This meeting marks another step in a series of high-level dialogues that have characterized Moroccan-Spanish relations since the adoption of a new roadmap in 2022. As both countries continue to navigate complex geopolitical landscapes, their partnership stands as a testament to their commitment to mutual respect and collaboration for shared prosperity.
