The signing of this agreement highlights the commitment of Morocco and Libya, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mr. Mohamed Al-Menfi, to enhance their sectoral cooperation. Their aim is to create mutually beneficial partnerships that will promote sustainable fisheries management and the development of their respective blue economies.

This protocol reflects the shared aspiration of both nations to strengthen their historic ties of friendship and collaboration, with a special focus on the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.

Recognizing the strategic importance of fisheries and aquaculture for both economic and social growth, as well as their contribution to food security, Morocco and Libya have agreed on a structured framework for increased cooperation.

Key provisions of the protocol encompass several strategic areas, including capacity building through training and knowledge exchange, scientific collaboration through joint research, improving seafood processing and marketing, and strengthening monitoring and control of fishing activities.

Furthermore, the protocol promotes joint investments between business stakeholders and coordination within international bodies to safeguard shared interests.

The protocol, initially set for a five-year term and subject to automatic renewal, also establishes a Joint Committee responsible for overseeing its implementation and evaluating the measures taken.
