A tidal wave of tourists inundated Spain's sunny shores in 2023, setting a new record with 85.1 million international visitors. This marks an impressive 18.7% surge compared to 2022, affirming Spain's position as the world's second-most popular tourism destination after France.

Leading the charge were British holidaymakers, comprising over 17 million of the total arrivals. They were closely followed by 11.8 million French tourists and nearly 11 million Germans, all seeking sun, sea, and sangria. Even visitors from distant lands like the Netherlands contributed to the influx, with nearly 5 million arrivals enticed by the allure of Gaudi's architecture and the soulful melodies of flamenco guitars.

Popular destinations included Catalonia, which welcomed 21.2 million guests, the Balearic Islands attracting 16.9 million sun-seekers, and the Canary Islands hosting 16.4 million visitors. Andalusia also proved to be a favorite, drawing over 14 million visitors with its distinctive white houses and lively festivals.

The surge in visitors translated into a significant boost in tourism spending, reaching €108.6 billion in 2023, a remarkable 24.7% increase from the previous year. With such robust numbers, Spain is poised to sustain its momentum in the tourism sector, further cementing its reputation as a captivating destination known for its vibrant culture, delectable cuisine, and breathtaking landscapes.
