South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi are scheduled to meet on Tuesday for a new bilateral summit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and cultural relations between the two neighboring countries.

According to officials in Seoul, the meeting will take place in the South Korean city of Andong, the hometown of President Lee. The visit follows a previous summit held earlier this year in Japan, in the hometown of Prime Minister Takaichi.

South Korean authorities described the gathering as an important opportunity to deepen mutual trust, friendship, and regional cooperation. The summit is expected to include official discussions on political, economic, and security issues, as well as cultural events and a formal state dinner.

Relations between South Korea and Japan have often been influenced by historical disputes and regional tensions. However, both governments have recently shown interest in improving dialogue and expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, and regional security in East Asia.

Observers believe the meeting could contribute to a more stable relationship between the two countries at a time of growing geopolitical challenges in the region. Cultural performances planned during the visit are also intended to highlight the shared heritage and long-standing connections between the Korean and Japanese peoples.
