At least 16 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Civil Defense, just one day after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement.

The strikes reportedly hit the Nabatiyeh region, an area in southern Lebanon that has seen repeated periods of escalation amid ongoing cross-border tensions. Emergency services also reported that 12 people were injured in the attacks, with rescue operations continuing in several affected locations.

Local authorities indicated that multiple sites were targeted, though details on the specific nature of the strikes and the intended targets have not yet been fully confirmed. Civil defense teams were deployed to search for survivors and assist the wounded amid damaged infrastructure.

The latest violence comes at a sensitive moment following the announcement of a ceasefire, raising concerns about the fragility of the agreement and the risk of renewed escalation in the region.

Lebanon has experienced repeated cycles of cross-border exchanges of fire linked to the broader regional conflict involving Israel and Hezbollah. Southern areas of the country, in particular, have been heavily affected by recent military activity.

Officials have not yet provided further details on the identities of the victims or the exact circumstances of the strikes. Investigations and emergency response operations remain ongoing as authorities assess the full extent of the damage.

The situation underscores the continued volatility along the Lebanon-Israel border, where diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions face significant challenges amid ongoing military developments.
