Showdown in Agadir: Raja Casablanca and AS FAR to Clash in Throne Cup Final
In what is set to be an electrifying culmination of the 2023-2022 Throne Cup tournament, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has confirmed that the final match will be held on Monday, July 1st, at Agadir's illustrious Grand Stadium. The exact timing of the game will be announced in the coming days.
Football fans are gearing up for an intense duel between league champion Raja Club Athletic (RCA) and runner-up AS FAR. These two powerhouses of Moroccan football, known for their storied histories and fervent supporters, are poised to deliver a memorable encounter.
AS FAR secured their berth in the final with a decisive 2-0 victory over Maghreb Fez (MAS). Meanwhile, Raja Club Athletic earned their spot following a dramatic 4-3 triumph against Mouloudia Oujda. The latter match saw RCA battling through regulation time to a 2-2 draw, only to clinch victory in a thrilling extra time showdown.
Josef Zinnbauer, the head coach of Raja AC, shared his thoughts on the impending final, acknowledging the formidable challenge posed by AS FAR and their coach. “We’re up against our toughest opponent this season. I admire this team and its coach, but just as we didn’t give up in the Botola championship, we will fight in the final,” Zinnbauer remarked in an interview with Al Botola.
While the winner of the Throne Cup traditionally earns a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup, this year’s final holds a unique nuance. Both RCA and AS FAR have already qualified for Africa’s premier international tournaments by virtue of their league standings, rendering the usual stakes of this match moot in that regard.
Nonetheless, the Throne Cup final remains a highly coveted prize, promising a showcase of tactical brilliance and athletic excellence. Football enthusiasts and supporters are eagerly anticipating the showdown at the iconic Grand Stadium in Agadir, where the clash of these titans will undoubtedly be etched into the annals of Moroccan football history.
