Shelter from the Storm: Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity Provides Haven for Quake-Stricken Village
In response to the devastating earthquake that struck Al Haouz province on September 8th, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has acted swiftly to assist those affected by the disaster. Teaming up with Renault Groupe Maroc, the Foundation has introduced an innovative accommodation solution in the remote mountain village of Toulkine.
Situated at an elevation of 1,700 meters and nestled within the rural municipality of Azgour, Toulkine bore the brunt of the earthquake's destructive force. With homes reduced to rubble and families left without shelter, the immediate need for assistance was clear.
The Foundation's humanitarian efforts have resulted in the conversion of 44 repurposed maritime containers into fully-equipped temporary dwellings. These shelters, equipped with beds, kitchen facilities, and essential cleaning supplies, now accommodate 220 individuals, including 12 widows, 14 elderly residents, and families with disabled members.
Additionally, the initiative has extended support to the village's primary school by constructing four toilet blocks and two temporary classrooms, ensuring uninterrupted education for Toulkine's youngest residents.
Given the village's remote location, 45 kilometers from the city of Amizmiz, the Foundation's intervention has provided much-needed relief to an area that might have otherwise remained isolated in the aftermath of the disaster.
The beneficiaries, expressing their gratitude, have embraced this commendable initiative, lauding the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity for its collaborative efforts with local authorities. They extend their sincere appreciation to King Mohammed VI, whose compassion and concern for his people have been evident.
In the face of adversity, this initiative stands as a beacon of hope, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of solidarity in times of crisis. As the people of Toulkine begin to rebuild their lives, they can take solace in the knowledge that they are not alone. The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has provided them with a sanctuary: a shelter from the storm.
